Stuck in Emergency Call Screen? iPhone 3G or 3GS

I have been asked several times in the past few months about iPhone 3G stuck in emergency call screen. Most of them were people who accidentally updated iPhone 3G with firmware 3.1.3 and it upgraded the baseband to 05.12.01 which still has no unlock. So here is a quick walk through which can help you get your iPhone 3G out of emergency call screen and you can than use it as an iPod Touch.

[ Quick Note ]
For those of you having trouble with Jailbreak, please make sure you are using iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw file. For some reason some of the Tech sites are sending out wrong versions of this file. Please download the correct file name and match the file name before you continue.

Important! Click here to check if your iDevice is Jailbreakable or not with the Firmware (iOS) version you are using (iPhone 2G to iPhone 4, iPod Touch, iPad, All Apple Products)

Here is a step by step guide on How to get your iPhone 3G out of Emergency Call screen.

Step 1:
Download Redsn0w 0.9.4 and you need iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, if you notice its 3.1.2 and that’s what you need, not 3.1.3 so don’t confuse on that.

  • Download redsn0w 0.9.4 for Windows
  • Download redsn0w 0.9.4 for Mac
  • Download Firmware 3.1.2

Step 2:
Turn your iPhone 3G off  and connect it with your System with the USB Cable.

Step 3:
Extract the content of Redsn0w 0.9.4 you just downloaded and look for redsn0w.exe [Windows 7 users should right click and make the file run as Administrator]

Run as administrator

Step 4:
Browse to iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw you downloaded in Step 1. Redsn0w 0.9.4 will process it and wait for “IPSW Successfully identified” message.

Step 5:
Now click next and Redsn0w 0.9.4 will ask you to hold Power and Home button, these are easy steps, follow them and let Redsn0w 0.9.4 do the magic for you. You will notice some processing on your iPhone screen as well. Once you’re done on your computer click finish, iPhone will continue the processing and after a reboot it will start installing the required stuff and you’ll be done in a few seconds. Also, just click on Cydia when asked on one of the screens.

This is it, let your iPhone reboot and you’ll be out of Emergency Call Screen. First thing  you want to do is download Fuzzyband from Cydia and check your Bootloader if you are lucky enough to be on the 5.08 Bootloader, you’ll be able to unlock your iPhone 3G with ultrasn0w.

    I have a 3GS IPhone but I dont know about the OS but I can say that I upgraded the OS from ITunes on 13th Dec, 2010. Soon after the upgradation i am facing the problem of Emergency Screen and on 15 Dec, 2010 i followed your instructionsstep by step but got stuck in “waiting to reboot” mode. I dont have any clue what to do next. Can you please help me. Sai

    Now when I am trying to restore using ITunes an error is coming

    I could able to restore it by following steps given.
    Step 1 Disconnect the USB cable from the system.
    Step 2 Hold the Power button and the Home button simultaneously till it completely switches off.
    Step 3 Release the power button without releasing the hold button.
    Step 4 Start the itunes.
    Step 5 Now connect the USB to the system.
    Step 6 System will recognize your iphone and asks for restore.
    Step 7 and i restored it to get atleast tot he emergency screen mode. Successfully i restored to the emergency mode.

    After doing all this I followed the instructions given by techsliver from the above URL. Once again I am struck up. When i try to restore, at the time of verification it is giving the error and not restoring. But you can try upto step 7 as you have not upgraded baseband 6.5. But anyways take suggestion from tech sliver

    Sai, do one thing, run redsn0w and from the cydia and other options, CHOOSE ONLY “BOOT TETHER FOR NOW” option nothing else and continue.. let me know if it worked!

    you have to update the baseband n all to fix the Emergency Screen and then
    Unlock your iPhone! there is no other way!

    i recently updated my itunes and now my iphone 3GS wont reset. It keeps displaying the emergency call screen and connect to itunes. It stays on that screen. I tried to jailbreak it using blackra1n and redsn0w. Both of these doesn’t seem to work. When i use these programs they seem to be stuck in the reboot step. I need help please!

    Help me out here. I did the Hold Home, restart. Restore 3.1.3 on a 2g 16 gig Iphone. Phone restarts and I have the Emergency call screen up again. I have tried the redsnow listed but when i go to upload the 3.1.3 It dont reconize the file and wont go past step 1. How do I get this going?

    you can not downgrade if you don’t have the SHSH… the only option for you
    is to update to the latest version and unlock it… let me know if you guys
    don’t have SHSH and ill link you to the how-to guide!

Now after doing the iREB to get rid of 1015 error, my iphone is stuck on Emergency call screen. Can anyone tell me how to fix it? Its driving me crazy…..

    @baninder please use tinyumbrella software n den in tinyumbrella u will a box saying exit rcovery mode……………n m sure it will 100% help u…………….it help me to… :)

    My Iphone 3g is stuck on emergency call only screen after doing a reset.  Also now itunes doesn’t recognize my 3g phone anymore.  Because itunes no longer recognize the 3g phone, I am not able to successfully  follow the instructions above.  I am stuck on step 5 because the computer or itunes doesn’t recognize that my iphone 3g is connect via the usb even though it is connected.
