SIM Unlock Your Rooted HTC One S For Free!

Rooting your device normally only provides root access to your device and allows you complete control over it. Turns out, rooting your HTC One S does a bit more than that. Root access to your HTC One S can now be used to SIM unlock your handset as well, without having to rely on your carrier or some third party.

Some time back, HTC Sensation owners noticed that the company had included the SIM unlock code for their handsets right within the /dev/block/mmcblk0p6 block. Soon after, HTC decided to switch things up and encrypted the SIM unlock code for their devices. To do this, they simply added a key that was generated from the phone’s IMEI number.

In order to generate the actual SIM unlock number, the reverse needs to be done. The phone’s IMEI number has to be used to calculate the encryption key first. Then that number has to be subtracted from the UN_Lock_clode. That gives you the required SIM unlock code for your HTC One S.

For all those people who are not too good with numbers, the developers have come to the rescue as usual. A Bash Script automates the process and makes calculations needless.

The first step is to use the Bash Script to obtain your SIM unlock code. Here’s how you can do that:

Step 1: Root your HTC One S.

Step 2: Download the Bash Script zip file.

Step 3: Extract unlock.sh file from zip to /system/ folder on HTC One S

Step 4: execute the .sh file directly from root explorer or open terminal emulator and run:
su <enter>
/system/unlock.sh <enter>

How To SIM Unlock Your HTC One S:

Step 1: The SIM Unlock code will be displayed on your screen once you follow the steps listed above correctly. Once it does, note it down somewhere and power off your HTC One S. (The SIM unlock code will also be saved to /sdcard/sim_unlock_code.txt) /sdcard/sim_unlock_code.txt)

Step 2: Remove the microSIM card from your HTC One S.

Step 3: Insert a microSIM card from some other service provider. Turn your phone back on now.

Step 4: You will be prompted to enter the SIM unlock code. Do so.

Your device will be unlocked now. Enjoy the freedom to use it with a SIM from any service provider of your choice!
