While stock Android fans normally don’t appreciate manufacturer UI’s, a lot of people enjoy experimenting and several different options when it comes to launchers. For all such people, the guys over at XDA have ported the launcher from Samsung’s flagship device to all ROMs running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Since porting Samsung’s Touchwiz launcher is a pretty simple matter, it was only a matter of time before someone managed to do it. Now, any Android 4.0 user can enjoy the Samsung Galaxy S III’s launcher on their device.
The process is fairly simple itself. To install the launcher on your device, all you’ll need to do is manually put an .apk file (download link given at the bottom) under/system/app. This can be done using any root explorer of your choice.
The launcher is working perfectly well on the following devices, as assured by the developer behind this:
LG Nitro HD
Samsung Captivate
Motorola Droid
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S
HTC Sensation
Xperia Pro
Samsung Galaxy S Plus
EVO 4G LTE
HTC EVO 3D
LG-P990
HTC Desire
HTC Rezound
HTC One S not AOPK
While this means that you can stick on the Touchwiz launcher onto just about any rooted Android device, it doesn’t mean that the process will be entirely smooth. You might encounter some minor problem on your device especially since the process is labeled beta as yet. However, issues encountered, if any, will be small. Some people have reported that widgets fail to work after installing the launcher. To add widgets, simply copy to /system/app. Next, change permissions to rw/r/r. Perform a fresh installation after this, go back to home and widgets should work fine.
