Pod2g Updates On iOS 5.1 Untethered Jailbreak for A5+ Devices

A few hours back today, renowned hacker Pod2g, the ex team member of the Chronic Dev team tweeted about iOS 5.1 jailbreak for A5+ devices. Three different hackers have already been successful in discovering how to jailbreak iOS 5.1 on the 3rd-gen iPad, namely MuscleNerd (of the iPhone Dev Team), i0n1c and chpwn. None of these jailbreak methods have been released publicly however, and from Pod2g’s tweets today it is evident that a public release is rather far away right now.

The hacker claims to have no clue about when the jailbreak will actually happen although he’s working a few hours every week to spot vulnerabilities which will eventually lead to an iOS 5.1 userland jailbreak for A5+ devices. He also stated that they have some bits and pieces of a userland jailbreak already. However, even if the developers get the rest of them it’ll still take quite a while for a public-ready jailbreak tool to be built.

This basically means that an official untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 firmware should not be expected anytime soon. There is no ETA, and Hacker Cyril (@Pod2g) hasn’t even mentioned which tool the userland exploit will be packaged into; Greenpois0n, redsn0w or Absinthe. However, it is good news for users who accidentally updated to iOS 5.1 ignoring our warning, and miss the untethered jailbreak they previously enjoyed, that the team is working on it. Hopefully, the highly anticipated iOS 5.1 A5/A5X jailbreak will be out sooner than anyone expects it to.
