MightyText -The Best Messaging App For Android, Straight From Ex-Google Employees

Apple device users have iMessage. This service, as most of you will already be aware of, allows users to send unlimited messages to anyone else with an iDevice too. For the rest of us there’s Google Voice. And now we have MightyText, a product from two used-to-be Google employees which apparently beats Google’s own Google Voice.

Similar to the other apps mentioned above, MightyText basically aims to do what all users really want – effortless syncing between all their devices, not leaving out their computers and tablets. The app lets Android device owners have exactly this level of syncing and eliminates the need for users to always have their phone on hand or to have to retrieve it to check received texts or send any. The app gives users the ability to both check and reply to text messages, from ANY device. The app has been launched for Android after being tested by an astonishing 250K users.

In order to use this app, an Android device is essential, naturally. Unlike Google Voice, MightyText does not require you to get a new phone number. Instead it simply hooks into your current phone number, a clear plus over Google Voice. It also has the potential to become even bigger than iMessage since iMessage is limited to iDevices only and is dependent on a user’s Apple ID. Mac OS X Lion is expected to bring iMessage to users soon but then again, there’s the limitation that it’ll only work between iOS devices.

Once you install this app on your Android handset, you will then be required to install a web extension within their web browser, whether you use Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari. Once you have done this, you will not only be able to view texts but also send them to anyone in the world, regardless of whether the device they own being Android or any other. And you’ll be able to do this from your phone, computer or tablet. Text and picture messages and calls will be stored in cloud and users will have access to them from all their devices. This uniform syncing and remote access to your phone combined are what makes this app so great.

The SMS still get routed through your phone which is why it’ll be a good idea to continue using your texting plan, if you have one. This is another thing that sets MightyText apart from the other apps out there. Unlike other third party texting apps, MightyText does not take anything away from those numerous carriers out there who’re using Android. This is in direct contrast with services like iMessage and BBM which make carriers lose money as they work over data channels or Wi-Fi. This is a plus for MightyText itself and makes carriers likely to partner with the app as it allows them to get their cut, maybe at an API level.

MightyText allows users to remain comfortable. The app does not require user’s friends to install it or to change how they themselves behave. It’s also extremely convenient for situations when working on a laptop may be considered okay but not having your nose stuck to your smartphone. Case in point: classrooms and meetings.

If you wish to download and give the app a go, download it from the link below. It’s a service you will probably fall in love with. You may also want to check out Desk Notifier, an app that allows Android notifications to be pushed to your computer.
