After months of rising anticipation, jailbreaking tools have finally been updated. Absinthe version 2.0 has been made public and this means that you can now untethered jailbreak devices running iOS 5.1.1!
Earlier we reported that the untethered jailbreak would be released this week. The hackers have kept their promise and months of hard work have culminated with the complete work done on the iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak, all the files and exploits, being compiled into Absinthe 2.0 – the latest version of Chronic Dev Team’s jailbreak tool that we were first introduced to back in January this year. The untethered jailbreak is for all existing iOS devices with the exception of the third gen Apple TV.
The final list of devices compatible with Absinthe 2.0, according to Pod2g, is as follows:

According to iPhone Dev Team leader MuscleNerd, the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak will also be available via Redsn0w.
For those of you who would rather use Absinthe, with it’s simple and user friendly interface, a complete tutorial of how to untethered jailbreak your iDevice is detailed below.
Before getting started, please note that you need to backup all your data, using either iTunes or iCloud to do so. If your phone relies on an unlock, do NOT update your firmware version to 5.1.1. Stay away from Absinthe, at least for now, if you wish to keep your unlock. Also note that you need to disable the passcode you have set on your device to prevent access before you start following this tutorial, if you have set one.
Follow the steps below to use Absinthe iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak:
Step 1: Download Absinthe 2.0 for Windows/Mac.
Step 2: Upon completion of the download, find the compressed file. Extract like any other .zip file. It would be convenient to place the extracted files on your desktop.
Step 3: Connect the device you wish to untethered jailbreak to your computer.
Step 4: Launch Absinthe through the executable file you just downloaded. When you launch it, the program will display an initial interface that will have text on it and a ‘Jailbreak’ button. This button will be visible if you have connected your device properly using a standard 30-pin connector cable.
Step 5: Press the ‘Jailbreak’ button.
This will initiate the jailbreak process. If it looks like a restore to you, don’t be alarmed. Please don’t touch the device while the payload process goes on. The progress bar on the Absinthe GUI will keep you informed.
Step 6: Once the process is complete you will see your device’s lock screen. The welcome Cydia icon should be present on your screen. This will obviously mean that your device has been successfully jailbroken untethered and you will be able to install all the useful extensions and packages that Cydia hosts. Congratulations!
