Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Untethered On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch (A4 Devices) Now Using Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 or Corona

Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 using Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 has been released. It currently supports all the A4 devices and they are still working on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Jailbreak. Based on an exploit discovered by Pod2g, currently the untethered jailbreak is available for the following devices:

  • iPhone 4 (GSM – CDMA)
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod touch 4G
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPad 1

First of all, you need to have a supported device from the above list that’s running iOS 5.0.1. If you are using older iOS, update it and then start then jailbreak process. The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1 and Cydia is automatically grabbing your shsh. If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW and save your baseband. Once you’re at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to untethered jailbreak iOS 5.0.1.

If already at 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you can either run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that), or install the Cydia package prepared by the Chronic Dev Team.  The patches are the same regardless of which you choose.

If using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration, do not attempt to install this untether over that setup!  You will most likely get into a reboot cycle.  Do a sync backup your stuff and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak.

How to Jailbreak 5.0.1 Untethered iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, 3G, iPad 1

Download the following:

1. Download Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 (WindowsMac OS X).

2. Download iOS 5.0.1 stock firmware.

3. Download iTunes from here.

Now that you have all the necessary tools downloaded, let’s begin with the jailbreaking.

STEP 1: Backup your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and restore it using the iOS 5.0.1 IPSW file downloaded above.

STEP 2: Open Redsn0w you already downloaded, select “Extras” then “Select IPSW” and browse for the iOS 5.0.1 IPSW file.

STEP 3: Now click on “Jailbreak” then “ check Cydia”.

STEP 4: You’ll need to follow the on-screen instructions to get your device into DFU mode.

STEP 5: Once done, your device will be rebooted and you’ll get a full untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1.

If you already have a tethered jailbreak on your device, you can run a jailbreak tweak from Cydia. For that, a new jailbreak tool available in Cydia named “Corona” can be used to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 untethered. The steps for it are:

How to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Untethered using Corona:

STEP 1: Assuming your device is already jailbroken, head to Cydia and let it fully update.

STEP 2: Once updated, search for “Corona 5.0.1 Untethered” under Big Boss repository and you’ll be able to download it for free by hitting the “Install” button on the top right of screen.

Once done, you’ll need to reboot your device and get your untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1. Stay tuned for more news on untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1.

I have an iphone 3gs that I just updated to iOS 5.0.1.  Downloaded redsn0w 0.9.10b1 and correct IPSW.  Went through the first 2 steps above just fine, but after it successfully recognized the IPSW file, it asked me this: is this newer (fixed) model of iphone 3gs?  I clicked on ‘no’ because my phone isn’t, and then the message window closes and I’m back to the redsn0w step 2 menu.  It doesn’t bring me to the next step to select jailbreak or install Cydia.  Advice?

Techy…. I preserved my BB and also untethered jailbroke my phone….but now I get error in iBooks…
    I googled and found there are 2 fixes… 1) iBookfix2 2) fix by xsellize….
