It was going to happen sooner or later and now it has – photos alleged to be that of the next generation iPhone have leaked. People who regularly read Apple related rumors are familiar with the name Foxconn. Whenever an Apple product is nearing release, numerous rumors attributed to Foxconn factory workers crop up inevitably. However, this time some factory worker has supposedly had the guts to actually smuggle out an iPhone 5. This has been publicized by a Chinese manufacturer, who has displayed their products wrapped nicely around this supposed iPhone 5.

Apple is pretty serious about security and about ensuring that nothing gives away what they will be bringing to the table. However, this does not mean that it is entirely impossible for an actual leak to happen. It may seem a little too early for production to have even started but with it having reportedly already begun at Pegatron, and with July nearly ending; it is entirely possible that Foxconn has started manufacturing the iPhone 5 too. Add to that lower than expected sales of iPhone 4S over the past 3 months, perhaps due to anticipation for the next iPhone, it could mean that Apple may release the device really soon. September 21st has already been pegged as the possible date by several sources. In such a case, Foxconn would be expected to pump out millions of units to meet demand and thus the timing may be right.
Also, the model shown seems to agree with various rumors generally expected to be true. A smaller dock connector port and the headphone socket moved to the bottom of the device can clearly be seen.
However, a few things do undermine the story. The picture quality is rather poor, and the model hasn’t been shown up close or made a big deal out of. Surely, if a case company had gotten their hands on the real deal, they would generate much more hype. The iOS seems to be running a weird combination of icons too and the Maps icon is the old one.
For now, it is all speculation and everyone can have a different opinion on this. With time, maybe we’ll see even more parts and models and renderings of the iPhone. Here’s a quick round up of what the rumors say the next iPhone will have when it is released this fall: a 4-inch (more recent rumors claim the display will be of 3.75 inches), a new 19-pin dock connector possibly accompanied by a dock adapter, 4G LTE, NFC, a nano-SIM, and a thinner display.
