iPad 3 jailbreak has become a competition it seems as every famous hacker seems to be working on it and showing off their skills at cracking the codes and making an untethered jailbreak for iPad 3 available. Just a few hours back, MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team tweeted about untethered jailbreak for iPad 3 with pictures of an iPad 3 alongside to prove it.
Stefan Essar aka i0nic tweeted the following in reply to MuscleNerd’s tweet:
Just yesterday, i0nic posted pictures of an untether jailbreak on iPad 2 running iOS 5.1 and iPhone Dev Team updated their blog giving a summary of the work being done on the iPad 3 and iOS 5.1 jailbreak.
And just now, i0nic has posted a video of his untethered jailbroken iPad 3.
The video has been uploaded on YouTube but is still being processed so check the link in some time and the video processing will have finished by then.
Whether this is professional rivalry or just the desire to find the untethered jailbreak for the community, it surely has been a remarkable work done by the hackers i0nic and MuscleNerd.
According to iPhone Dev Team, the method used to jailbreak the iPad2 4 months ago (before corona) still works even in 5.1. With that being said, it meant that the task to find the untethered jailbreak would not be as tough as it was in the case of iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.
iPad 3 comes with iOS 5.1, the latest firmware that was released by Apple alongside the new iPad 3. Currently, a semi tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 is available through Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze tools. For those who haven’t upgraded to the latest iOS 5.1 and are still using iOS 5.0.1, untethered jailbreak is available through Absinthe for iPhone 4S and iPad2 and through Corona for iPhone 4 and other A4 and earlier devices.
