i0n1c Shows Off iOS 5.1.1 Jailbreak On The New iPad

Apple only just pushed out the latest firmware version, iOS 5.1.1 to iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users. And ion1c has already managed a jailbreak on his new, third generation iPad running iOS 5.1.1! The dev has teased with a photo posted on Twitter; check it out yourself:

It can be seen from the picture that the device is a third gen iPad, incorrectly described as iPad 3 (AT&T), running iOS 5.1.1 and Cydia 1.1.6. Steven Esser, aka ion1c, blames the developer behind Cydia – Saurik, for the incorrect description. In his own words, “You have to blame Saurik for the AT&T stuff in Cydia. He wrongly calls iPad3,3 the iPad3 AT&T.”

ion1c has not given any other details. It is a safe assumption that he will, however, not be releasing this jailbreak. The skilled hacker has issues with the jailbreaking community because of his rants about piracy and money as well as an overall disdain for jailbreaking as a whole. Basically, him providing an untethered jailbreak for A5 device is rather unlikely presently.

Following the release of the previous iOS version, 5.1, in March, i0n1c posted a video of his untethered jailbroken iPad 3. Nothing became of it though and hackers like Pod2g are still working on the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 and trying to find useful vulnerabilities.

It is a testament to ion1c’s talent however, that he has been able to perform a jailbreak on Apple’s latest device which boasts an impressive A5X processor. Up until now, there has been no jailbreak of the device, let alone an untethered one.

Pod2g is yet to comment on whether the exploits he was using for iOS 5.1 untether are working with iOS 5.1.1 or not.

Till something new is released, keep calm and check out the current options. You can tethered jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 using the jailbreaking tool Redsn0w by following our tutorial. There is a tethered jailbreak for some devices on iOS 5.1 that can be achieved via the Sn0wbreeze and Redsn0w tools. For those who haven’t yet upgraded to the latest firmware version and are on iOS 5.0.1, an untethered jailbreak is available through Absinthe for iPhone 4S and iPad2 and through Corona for iPhone 4 and other A4 and earlier devices. And while the untethered jailbreak tool seems a little far off currently, a great universal unlock method was discovered lately, that you may want to check out. There is one problem. I know in Germany haven’t a internet provider AT&T. So that isn’t possible.
