Well, Well… Updated your iPhone 4 and stuck in emergency screen? Here is a quick how to for those who are stuck in emergency screen and for those who are willing to activate the iPhone 4 without the original SIM. This guide is for all the Jailbreaking and unlocking fans as well. Although, keep in mind that there is no jailbreak for iOS 4.1 (as of September 15th, 2010) so you can not unlock an iPhone 4 through ultrasn0w (on iOS 4.1).
Do not update your iPhone 4 if you are already on an unlocked device. This guide is for those who are stuck in emergency call screen and for those who tapped on the factory reset button and hence locking the iPhone 4. This guide will also help those who are willing to jailbreak and unlock their iPhone 4 which is under the contract (carrier locked).
Here is a simple step by step guide on how to first Activate and than Jailbreak your iPhone 4:
How To Activate:
Step 1:
You need to have a Phonebook SIM. Phonebook SIMs are available, online and in the market. This is what I used… I wonder why they used a Dog on it.

Step 2:
Use that Micro SIM and insert it into your iPhone 4.

Step 3:
Wait for iPhone 4 to show the activation screen, Plug in your device and launch iTunes. iTunes will recognize your iPhone 4 and activate it. So far so good?

How To Jailbreak:
Step 1:
Turn WiFi ON on your activated iPhone 4
Step 2:
Open safari and go to www.jailbreakme.com. All you have to do here is slide the bar shown on the screen and wait for Jailbreakme to finish the download and Jailbreaking of your device. Do not unplug or do anything silly at this point.
Step 3:
After the Jailbreak of your iPhone 4 go to Cydia > Manage > Sources > From the Top Right corner Tap on Edit and then Tap Done. A popup will open put http://cydia.pushfix.info and tap on Add Source.

Step 4:
Next, go to Search option on your Cydia screen and type in “Hactivation (Patch)”
Final Step:
Install the patch and reboot your device. After the reboot go to Cydia again and search ultrasn0w to unlock your device and enjoy your activated and unlocked device.
