If after running the iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak, you have discovered an empty camera roll, ‘Planetbeing’ has recently tweeted a temporary solution. The empty camera roll error is simple to fix. All you need to do is rerun the jailbreak app twice.

If you encounter an empty camera roll after running the jailbreak on your iPhone 4S or iPad 2, it’s because the jailbreak was incomplete- as explained by the legendary iPhone hacker ‘Planetbeing’ aforementioned. In simple words, Absinthe (the tool that enables users to untethered jailbreak iOS 5.0/5.0.1 on iPhone 4S or iOS 5.0.1 on the iPad 2) has failed to fully jailbreak your device, because the A5 untethered jailbreak solution still has a few bugs.

To fix this error temporarily, you will need to go back to the Absinthe app. You will need to rerun it twice. The first rerun fixes the empty camera roll, and the second completes the actual jailbreak. Your missing photos will be restored and your jailbreak successfully completed.

For those who do not know yet, Absinthe is the jailbreak tool promised to everybody since months, and finally released yesterday by the Chronic Dev team. It is the simplest tool possible for a jailbreak. One click is all you need to do, the remaining process is fully automated. If you wish to untethered jailbreak your device, we have previously posted a complete tutorial for Mac users. The team behind Absinthe has assured everybody that Windows and Linux versions will soon be here.

A little caution would be good for iPhone 4S users who wish to unlock their device. A few days back, MuscleNerd advised people looking to unlock their 4S devices not to upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 to avoid future baseband-related issues. A software based unlock is being developed for iPhone 4S but it may not be compatible with the newer basebands in iOS 5.0.1. If you have already upgraded, it is still possible to downgrade back to iOS 5.0 because Apple is signing both firmwares. Download the iOS 5.0 IPSW for iPhone 4S and then simply restore via iTunes.
