Chinese Source Claims iPhone 5 Will Be Released On September 21!

The rumor mill continues to churn out rumors regarding the iPhone 5 (whether Apple eventually calls the sixth generation iPhone that or not is not yet known). The device is speculated to have abilities such as 4G LTE, which will give it a major speed bump as compared to 3G technologies, as well as NFC (Near Field Communication). A new 19 pin dock connector and a mysterious hole at the back are also said to be in the works. As for when the device will eventually be released, September or October have often been named. Now, two different sources have actually pegged one single date as the one that Apple will launch its latest iPhone on. If these are to be believed, the world will finally see the iPhone 5 unveiled on September 21st!

Both PhoneArena and a French website App4Phone claimed the third Friday of September as the date. Both these sites don’t have any sort of claims record previously so it cannot be said for sure whether they are right or wrong. Only time will tell. The source of this rumor is said to be a Chinese accessory maker who has it from Apple itself. The accessory maker is said to be the third leading maker in Hong Kong. It has not been said whether the date mentioned is the date the iPhone 5 will be unveiled (with an availability date of around a week later) or made available (in which case the device will be announced earlier).

The 19-pin dock has been confirmed by this source as well. The change in dock size will make all older accessories obsolete unless an adapter is purchased. Apple is expected to provide a 30-pin dock adapter for the iPhone 5’s 19-pin connector.

Once again, a larger screen size has been talked of. However, where previous rumors have mentioned 4-inch screens for both the iPhone 5 and the redesigned iPod Touch, this source claims that the increase in screen size will be less drastic. If what it says is true, the iPhone 5 will have a screen measuring 3.75 inches. That’s still an increase though.

Aside from this, iPhone 5 is expected to be running the latest iOS version, which is iOS 6. Physical changes may also include a centered FaceTime camera and an even thinner display as well as the introduction of nano SIM cards.

A release date of September 21 is certainly possible. Pegatron – that’s one of Apple’s regular suppliers – is said to have started manufacturing the handset already. The date would also make sense because it would be a few days before Apple’s fourth fiscal quarter would come to an end. It would thus make an excellent time to kick off whatever Apple has planned; rumors suggest a new iPhone, an iPad mini and a redesigned range of iPods! Stay tuned for more on this.
