App: Lock your iPhone applications with Locktopus

Don’t you just hate it when a friend takes your iPhone and go through all your personal stuff, from SMS, MMS to Photos and Emails. Well, now you can lock your applications with the help of this nice little tool called Locktopus. Locktopus works on all Jailbroken devices and its available on Cydia for $2 and its totally worth buying it.

This tiny little tool is developed by @GoJohnnyBoi and @c_axis and the main idea behind it is to protect your personal stuff. So, keep your stuff to yourself now, here is how to get the app and installation procedure.

You need to jailbreak your iPhone to get this, so here is a guide to jailbreak:

  • Jailbreak iPhone 4 (iOS 4.0 / 4.0.1)
    using JailbreakMe 2.0 Star
  • Jailbreak iPhone 3GS (iOS 4.0.1)
    using sn0wbreeze
  • Jailbreak iPhone 3G (OS 4.0 Firmware)
    using redsn0w
  • If you are on an old firmware, see the jailbreak section below

Once your are done with jailbreak, you’ll be able to see Cydia on your screen.

  • Run Cydia
  • Tap on Search and type “Locktopus”
  • Once you see Locktopus, tap on it, you’ll notice Purchase button on the top-right side, tap on it to purchase this app
  • After purchasing the app, notice the installation button on top-right side, tap on it.
  • Once installation is done, Cydia will ask your to restart Springboard

How to Use Locktopus

After a successful purchase and installation, go to your springboard and tap on Locktopus, a popup screen will appear with a message that your default password is “password” which you can change in settings and that’s the password you’ll be using to lock and unlock your apps.

Go to settings and set your password and safety code, once done go back to your iPhone home screen and Press and Hold any application you want to lock.

A lock button should appear on the left-bottom side of your app, tap on the lock to enable it. This should lock your application.

Now, try opening that locked application and you will notice the Insert Password screen, enter the password you selected in the settings menu and you are good to go.
