We have tasted Cupcake, Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich by now. Not talking about some Dessert buffet here but rather the operating system Android and its versions. From the time of its first release back in 2007, Android has developed into an operating system that is everyone’s choice and preference these days.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was released in 2011 and disappointingly, approximately only 1% of users are currently using it. The delay in the ICS update release for devices by manufacturers hasn’t helped either in getting people to adopt the new OS. With Microsoft’s Windows 8 OS to be released after midyear, rumors are that Google will also be releasing the latest Android version by June.

Following the previous trend, the latest Android 5.0 is code named Jelly Bean and is to be released in the second quarter. The news comes from Taiwan-based supply chain makers claiming the release of notebooks and tablets that will run the latest Android 5.0 Jelly Bean.
“Android 5.0 will be further optimized for tablet PCs, while Google will also integrate its Chrome system functions to push dual-operating system designs. Brand vendors can either choose to adopt only Android 5.0 or add Android 5.0 to Windows 8 devices with the ability to switch between the two OSes without the need to shut down the computer.”
With focus on tablets and notebooks, Google might be able to have a strong hold in the tablet market. At the same time, if Jelly Bean is a tablet only OS like HoneyComb, then naturally Ginger Bread users, who account for over 50% of Android users, will be forced to adopt Ice Cream Sandwich and manufacturers will also be more inclined to release timely updates for the OS.
